Nicole Kidman, one of the world’s finest actresses, won an Academy Award for her brilliant portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours. She is also a tireless campaigner for children’s and women’s rights and is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF Australia and UN Women. Read Nicole's interview with Omega and learn how she inspires Women from all around the World.

Nicole Kidman’s career is a real treasure of inspiration and artistic courage, as we well know. However, her lifestyle also says a lot about her, with time divided between Australia and Nashville, far from Hollywood. She is one of those actresses who manage to cultivate their own mystique… without making a fuss. Just look at the candid and direct way she answered my questions.

Who are the women that inspire you?

There are so many women who inspire me, women who dare to be different, who defy convention, but right now I’m working on a play about Rosalind Franklin, who helped discover DNA, so she has been a real inspiration to me lately.

Your career is extremely inspiring and diverse. How do you chose your roles?

Gosh, I don’t know if I would call it inspiring! As an actor, you never really know what parts will come your way, but I do try to take on diverse films and roles as much as possible. I like to explore different sides of myself through characters - learning and understanding other people. It’s a way for me to grow, I suppose, to evolve.

You chose to live far from the film industry, can you tell me a little bit about that choice?

My husband and our children have a home in Nashville, but we always say that we’re a traveling group of musicians and actors. I think we’re free-spirits at heart. We find home wherever we happen to be. Nashville is a part of that adventure, a way for us to experience different people and places—and amazing music, too!

Are you an on time type of person?

I am! It might be years of working in a collaborative setting on film and stage sets, but for me being on time means respect and teamwork. I also love when you don’t need to be on time, when you can live in the moment and not worry about the passing minutes!

"THERE ARE SO MANY WOMEN WHO INSPIRE ME, WOMEN WHO DARE TO BE DIFFERENT, WHO DEFY CONVENTION."

How do you spend your time in Nashville compared to time in Sydney?

My mum lives in Sydney, so time with family there is especially important. Nothing makes me happier than getting my family—Keith, my mum, my sister and her kids—together in Sydney or Nashville. More than ever, we’ve come to really appreciate those times together since my father’s death last year.

What is the best part of having a farm in Sydney?

The animals! I love animals. I’ve always had a connection with them, and seeing my children form those bonds is very special. In Australia, we have Alpaca, the most amazing animals!

You are the goodwill ambassador for UN Women, how has this impacted your outlook on women's rights?

I’ve met the most extraordinary women through UN Women. Our missions have taken us all over the world, and it has been eye-opening, to say the least. Not just the issues we are working to address, but the stories of resilience and strength. Without a doubt my work with the UN has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.

How do you unwind?

Watching a movie, reading, listening to music and eating good food. But mostly relaxing with my family.
